Carl Craig’s “Televised Green Smoke”
Here’s the video for “Televised Green Smoke,” a track created by Detroit techno prodigy Carl Craig. Craig is one of the people I’m most excited to see this weekend at Movement, Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival. Had I thought of this sooner, I would have annoyed all of you Lineout readers for weeks with videos, pictures, and other multimedia goodness (not unlike the much-maligned Belle and Sebastian Fact of the Day), but oh well, I’ve only got three days. To say I’m excited about this festival is an understatement.
Anyway, here’s the video. And if you haven’t heard Carl Craig’s Fabric Mix, make your way to a music store and pick that up. I’ve had it in rotation for months now. It has yet to get old.

btw, i love this track, the beginning reminds me of an errorsmith track.
while i disagree on craig's installment, i will certainly agree with you on the spotty nature of the fabric releases. i can understand why they get the attention they do, since it's very high-profile, but studio k7's dj kicks series has always been the one for me (well, until the last few anyway). carl craig's mix for that one is brilliant btw.
i've sold off many after 30 sec. of listening!
Wow. That's wacky.
Do you regularly walk away from new people you meet after "Hello"? There's something innately wrong about making such snap judgments about music. Unless you're listening to third-wave ska or Insane Clown Posse.
okay. i'm a hyperbole addict.
i do listen through all of the fabric mixes at least once, on the off chance i discover a great track i haven't heard yet, a la the peace division track i alluded to earlier. but some are just so unfulfilling after a listen! then when you read the track listings and it seems like it's just full of songs by friends or label mates i feel used.
some are just not my taste at all. like the matthew dear one. i found that it was kinda boring.
word is that the villlobos one came in and was hated by everyon at fabric so they x'd it's release, which, judging from his last cd, was probably a good idea.
i don't think there's anything wrong with that judging things quickly, it's an acknowlegement of your own taste.
Interesting about the Villalobos Fabric mix. I've been wondering what the deal was.
You hate the last Villalobos album? Our tastes must be diametrically opposed, HMA.
Re: quick judging—many great records take more than one listen to be truly appreciated. Many great songs don't really hit their stride until, say, the third minute. Just sayin'. I'm not about to try to change your ways or anything.
the difference between the two villalobos cd's is, too me, like the difference between luomo and delay. i love luomo, hate 95% of delay.
1. Carl Craig's Fabric mix isn't as good as his other recent mixes found for free all over the web, however it is a great mix. Also, you blew it on the Global Comm. mix, which is a pleasure to listen to but does require the right setting.
2. I assume you didn't buy the Ascho EP by Villalobos because imho, its the best thing he's ever done.
3. To say the Diplo mix is brilliant and the GC/CC mixes were shit says enough abou your taste to know that we don't and won't agree on much. The Diplo mix was perhaps the worst mix of his i've heard (and i've heard at least 10 diff. mixes).

oh! i sold that fabric mix off immediatly. didn't like it at all. same with the audion one.
sometimes they're brilliant (rob da bank, michael mayer, swayzak, bent, lrd/jlc, freeland, diplo, death in vegas)
but i've sold off many after 30 sec. of listening! (high contrast, herbaliser, nitin sawhney, global comm. dj heather, baby mammoth)
the quality on these is totally all over the board, sometimes they're great mixes, other times it seems that they're ;just used to sell a persons label and promote friends whose work pales in comparison. i thought that about the carl craig mix.
while he certainly is the bomb, his fabric mix, imho, is not. it's a bore.
now, would someone please grab dave a tissue to dry his eyes i think i hear him sobbing....
ps. the new wiggle fabric mix is great, esp. love "club therapy" by peace division.
