Do you miss Arling & Cameron?

posted by on May 14 at 18:25 PM

Since dropping Arling & Cameron’s soothing single “Voulez-Vous?” into my DJ set at a huge corporate cocktail party gig a few weeks ago, and feeling the whole room light up, I’ve been spending renewed quality time with All-In, 1999’s debut album by the Dutch duo. In a nifty bit of synchronity, New York DJ Andy Reynolds featured two recent tracks by A&C side project Fluffy Target on his East Village Radio show Penetration last week.

If you dig the zany, polychromatic pop of the former, make sure to check out the latter, too—their debut 12-inch (available via the Bungalow Popshop) features contributions from love-‘em-or-hate-‘em sistas Princess Superstar and Avenue D. Hot!

In a longer, friendly e-mail, Richard Cameron sent me a clarification re/ Fluffy Target this morning: "fluffy target is not an A&C side project though (Arling has nothing to do with it) but a cooperation between me and Achim Treu. Treu is a Berlin based musician/producer that made one of my favourite records with his project Künstler Treu and also made the last Der Plan record (legendary German early eighties band). He used to be in the former Bungalow act Dauerfisch."

Sorry... don't miss A&C at all. I was RPM director at KWVA in Eugene, OR when a few '00 albums came out and I couldn't escape the promo-company's hype. The sad fact for me was, the album's blandness felt so calculated that I couldn't help feel it wasn't meant to be anything but walpaper, Starbuck comp. fodder. So I guess... keep it relegated to the corp. parties please.

to Steve: ouch! sounds like A&C's music, despite of it's 'blandness', has been making quiet an impression on you, still evoking such a strong reaction with you after all these years :)...
I didn't hire the promo company back then but they must have taken their job very serious...You can sleep easy though, all my projects, including the new A&C album, are strictly 'indie' (they always were by the way) and if you tell me where you're working now (not at a 'corporation' I hope! :)...) I'll make sure our promo company will not bother you this time.

That's too much man! :) If I tell you where I work you're just gonna come and shoot me for saying bad things about your records :) I will say... your album covers were pretty cool.
