Mister Leisure, Hard at Work

Playing last night at Capitol Hill cool spot Des Amis, Mister Leisure (AKA Stranger freelancer/Line Out contributor Matt Corwine) laid down over an hour of incredibly funky and club-friendly tech-house… to about 37 people. Corwine’s dance music—which sounds as if arduous R&D has gone into it—strikes the ideal balance between the captivatingly weird and the supremely functional.

I know this may smack of cronyism, but I am utterly sincere: Mister Leisure should be playing before 3,000 people at major festivals, not in front of three dozen onlookers in a Seattle basement. Seriously, this brainy, bootylicious music would slay crowds at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Sonar, or Decibel.

as one of those 37 people in attendance last night, i can only echo these sentiments and look forward to seeing him play again soon

I couldn't agree more. I think Matt is one of the NW's best techno talents (Jeff Samuel, Lusine, Kris Moon) and it hurts my heart that he's not touring this bitch out with the Dears and the Akufens of the world. Someone give this guy a record contract and some gigs, STAT.

Is Des Amis really a "Capitol Hill cool spot?" Gosh, I'm so out of the loop...

I meant it as the opposite of "hot spot."
It was a diss that came off as a compliment.
I like it when that happens.
