Not-So-Sad Sad City

I have an affinity for Ghostland Observatory, I’m not gonna lie (long before John Richards and his Cubicle Army and his unfounded propensity for playing GO every morning and his stupid idea to follow them around the country in a renovated school bus). Those dudes from Austin got me through a long, dark, depressing winter, and for that I am grateful.
Luckily, charismatic and connected John Richards scored his coup de grace by securing GO for this year’s KEXP Barbeque, taking place on Sun, August 13th. I’ve never been to one (my Irish heritage doesn’t lend itself well to sun exposure), but from what I hear they’re a hoot. Last year’s headliner ended up being The Go Team (after U.S.E. and Smoosh had already signed on), but that wasn’t even announced until the weekend of, so KEXP’s annual promise of “very special guests” could bring an even more exciting Richards-approved KEXP-Flavor-of-the-Month.
UPDATE: Out of the mouths of babes (or afore-mentioned KEXP DJs):
KEXP BBQ!!! I’m sure anyone who has been to the KEXP BBQ knows its [sic] good times and will be there no matter who is playing. BUT this time Ghostland Observatory is playing! I’m telling you, sweet. And its [sic] in a park with actual grass in it down the street from KEXP. Plus its [sic] all ages complete with Beer Garden. A Garden! That GROWS BEER!!!! Two other bands have been confirmed but we cannot announce yet. A fourth is being added that will rule everyone’s face.
NOTE: For those with an aversion to heat, sweat, and all things sun-induced, GO will also be playing a set at the cool and dark Crocodile the evening of the 14th.
Full KEXP press release after the jump.
