High Tech Soul: Available for Pre-Order

Posted by DONTE PARKS at 02:03 PM

hitechsoul.jpgThe trailer has been released for High Tech Soul (well, released to Youtube anyway), a documentary about the creation of techno music. It’s been under development for years, with early versions making the festival rounds at various points. Now it’s finally going to be released on DVD.

The documentary, as expected, focuses on the most recognized fathers of techno, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, and Juan Atkins, but touches on how Detroit specifically influenced the music, sharing the city’s tale as an interwoven element of the music’s history, largely through interviews with techno’s elite, including the aforementioned three, Richie Hawtin, Stacey Pullen, Jeff Mills, Kenny Larkin, and the Electrifying Mojo and dozens more. (Dan Sicko’s highly recommended Techno Rebels covers the same territory in wood pulp form.)

The DVD goes on sale in September, but can be pre-ordered now. Pre-orders come with a special-edition mix from Derrick May.

i've been listening to Derrick May's - Innovator cd's in the shower all week and just bought Carl Craig's excellent mid-90's work as 69 on CD. Who sells back these things? Glad they did cuz i also scored Landcruising used. That i can sort of understand because of the Reissue but the reiusse has diff. mixes of half the tracks! Oh well. I'm not sure this DVD will be as glorious as it sounds but i'll be preordering it here directly!
