Quentin Tarantino kind of stole my thunder when he played Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street" over the opening credits of Jackie Brown.

So now I've had to revise that to Lou Reed's "Gimme Some Good Times" from Street Hassle.

Honestly, anytime RJD2 comes on my iPod my strut gains a little more bravado, and I've always thought his tracks could be the soundtrack to my life. If I had to choose just one, it would be "Bus Stop Bitties." "Candied yams and collard greens... Soul food!"

I can't narrow it down to one. These are among the top contenders:
Stevie Wonder's "Uptight (Everything's Alright)"
Curtis Mayfield's "Superfly"
Roxy Music's "Street Life"
Funkadelic's "I'll Bet You"
Miles Davis' "Black Satin"

the song is, of course, "she's a lady" by tom jones.

Comment by Chris Estey

I am not trying to hustle here, but the label I work for is putting out Jackie Mittoo's "Wishbone" album from 1971 (his Canadian debut), and the eighth track on the record, "Love Of Live," has these delicious swooping strings, crunchy rhythm section, and sweet Gospel vocals that make me tingle every time. The sad twist is that the song is such a perfect anti-blues, I play it over and over, envisioning the beginning of what would be the start of Mike Leigh's "Naked: 2" -- and the unbounded joy of the track is completely ironic, as much as it is dramatic -- those strings sweeping in just as the Thewlis character hobbles down the street, stolen pounds in hand, late for his next beating or various misadventure.

there is something about tina turner doing "honky tonk women" that makes me feel like i can do anything. her delivery of that song is nothing short of mind blowing. the horns and guitar on it are only matched by the way she struts while singing it. that's my song!

"Jaguar" - John Gregory (from The Sound Gallery Vol. 1)

Back in the day, I had this song on a tape in my Walkman, and this day in particular I happened to be on a big, beautiful and relatively-deserted Southern California beach. On acid.

I'd play the song as I walked up the beach, through the breaking surf and towards the sun. Then I'd rewind the tape and walk back down the beach a bit, only to turn around and continue walking up, over and over and over and over.
