Is Anyone Else Watching American Masters: Andy Warhol ?
The first two hours last night focused on his pre-Factory career, and tonight we delve into ‘65 (enter the VU) on. It was lovely to see Warhol’s controversial career dissected with such honesty, intricacy and care. I found Laurie Anderson’s narration superb. I’ve been thinking about Warhol recently, as I just attended a fabulously depraved art show by Peter Caine in Brooklyn that Andy surely would have approved of.
I was also blown away by Scorsese’s Dylan retrospective earlier this year. American Masters has got to be the best social documentary series of all time. It’s nice to have something besides the BBC News to watch on PBS.

That was a fabulous documentary. Is there a book version of his life that tells the story of it as well as this documentary did? I got a better sense of how his art was very reflective of american society. Considering what he grew up out of and became, he is very much a great american success story.
Kinda made me homesick for the east village of the 70's and 80's.
Chelsea Girls w/ it's stunning imagery is a seminal american film. Saw it at the Henry Art Gallery a few years ago. Wouldn't mind seeing it again.
I've read a ton of Warhol books, but they always end up being "loaned out" to friends and never seen again. (I think I've gone through four copies of Edie, Superstar in paperback) A good idea might be to look up some titles by the authors who were interviewed in the documentary.
That was a most excellent look at Andy Warhol, they did a great job of laying out his story. Loved Laurie as the narrator. Really good! I hear there is extra footage on the DVD coming in November!

I thought it was very good. I think I understood better what he was doing now.
After a couple of hours I was wondering why there were no Warhol interviews; then in the middle of the 2nd show they mentioned how he was never part of his films.
