Moons Under Manhattan
I recently checked out Seattle’s very own DJ Colby B in Manhattan at Mr. Black. Mr. Black is literally an underground club that was at one time an S/M den. It’s now a fun party room for well-dressed gay boys and the chicks who love them. Some of the best DJs in the country have spun in this little venue, but by far the biggest and most notable draw to Mr. Black is this guy and his well-maintained ass. When I say well-maintained, I mean it. Even up close, it’s lustrous sheen is nearly blinding. I don’t know if he sees a dermatologist to achieve the creamy, hairless and zit free texture, or if he sits in his living room on Sunday night carefully alternating between exercising his glutes and home microdermabrasion. In either case, his ass is so famous it has it’s own website. Not one to be upstaged by a bare-assed cocktail waiter, Colby catered her usual indie heavy, electro house set to accomodate the dance oriented crowd who shook it like there was no tomorrow to the Riton remix of JT’s “Sexy Back” and T-Funk’s cover of Shelia E.’s “Glamorous Life.”
I met Colby nearly 10 years ago when we worked together at RKCNDY. She has in that time worked in almost every facet of the Seattle music industry. She’s taken all that hard earned knowledge and co-opted it into a full-on career as a DJ/ party professional. I think Colby’s best accomplishment is that she’s so beloved by everyone who has ever known her, you’d think she was made up. Don’t believe me? Princess Superstar just emailed her to rave about her awesomeness and how much she likes her work.
Colby, as you may know, plays several popular nights in Seattle including tonight’s Club Pop (which will feature performances by the Chromatics and Glass Candy). Friday, you can check her out at my very favorite Seattle party night, Comeback (a special Halloween Horrorama) with DJ Fucking in The Streets, MC Chompers, and DJ Porq aka Marcus Wilson, who I consider one of the most happening, ahead of his time guys in Seattle. (Seriously, I’m convinced Marcus has a scientifically tricked-out Delorean ala Back to the Future stashed somewhere on Capitol Hill.) She also contributes to the Relaunch: HitGirl! (Hot Mess) entertainment collective and has successfully brought some of NYC’s most notorious talent (Amanda Lepore, anyone?) to Seattle.
Tonight’s Club Pop at Chop Suey is 18+ with bar, so go on down and check out the hip in training.
Warning: if you request Michael Jackson she may look at you like this:
