Weekend Records

Posted by MEGAN SELING at 03:15 PM

This weekend I bought some new CDs:

Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - Shake the Sheets
Anathallo - Floating World
Jawbox - Savory +3

I already had the Anathallo record, but it was just a CD-R copy, so I finally scored a real copy, which has beautiful artwork.

It’s hard to see here, but the brown part is actually a seperate piece of cardstock that is cut out to reveal the layer of airbrushed paper under it. Just like their music, it’s so delicate and pretty.

I wish Singles Going Steady had a copy of Army of Ponch’s So Many You Could Never Win, but alas they had to put one on order. Oh well. It’ll be worth the wait.

What records did you buy this weekend?

A couple of dub records. Digital-era King Tubby, Sly and Robbie, ya know the good stuff.

2

reissued Wipers vinyl

Asobi Seksu's latest - So good, and a damn fine live show too

Silversun Pickups - It's been on permarotation since I bought it. I just downloaded the album last week to give it a whirl, and knew it was one I had to own.

Plan B - Bought this one unheard (other than from live shows) and it doesn't disappoint. It reminds me of The Album Leaf at many points, but it makes for nice growth from the two EPs. Highly recommended.

4

Lloyd Cole - Anti Depressant. Out in the U.S. on October 10th. Excellent solo album for this singer/songwriter.

Kinky - Reina. Good album; still absorbing it.

Masada - 50th Birthday Celebration, Vol. 7. Excellent jazz from John Zorn, Dave Douglas, and company.

DJ Cheb i Sabbah - La Ghriba

Marie Boine - Idjagiedas

5

Franco Battiato- Pollution (sorry again, Steve)
TV on the Radio- Depserate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
The Rapture- Pieces of the People We Love
Magma- 1001ยบ Centigrades
Picchio Dal Pozzo- Picchio Dal Pozzo
new 12s by Audion and Bruno Pronsato
