Access Hollywood (of all places) is reporting that
[L]ate Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain may finally be immortalized on screen with the permission of his widow, rocker Courtney Love.Love has acquired the rights to Heavier Than Heaven, author Charles Cross’ biography on the late grunge singer, a source close to the star told Access. According to our source, several studios are in discussions with Love to bring the book to the big screen.
The rocker also confirmed the project is “in an embryonic stage,” with a post on a Courtney Love fansite MoonwashedRose.com. “[It] has no script and no director attached, let alone stars,” she added.
It may all be bullshit, but if it’s not—and it absolutely has to happen—please, for the love of God, don’t cast this guy as Kurt.

who is that?
Can I also mention that Cross' book sucks? So not only is it going to be a terrible movie, it's a terrible movie based on a terrible book.
Oh, and that's Ewan McGregor. You know, the one who likes playing people addled with heroin.
I thought Cross' book was pretty spot on, but casting Ewan as St. Cobain is a bit of a stretch.
I'd be more concerned with Courtney wanting to play herself...
McGregor already played a Kurt-type character in "Velvet Goldmine" and Michael Pitt already played a Kurt-type character in "Last Days." Although I am looking forward to AJ Schnack's Cobain doc, I could do without yet another fictional representation of his life.
I want Johnny Depp to play him. In the pirate costume.
McGregor playeda crappy IGGY POP in Velvet Goldmine...not a "Cobain" type. BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG diff!!!
I disagree, Nipper. McGregor plays a composite character in "Velvet Goldmine," as did most of the rest of the cast. I think Iggy Pop (blond era) *and* Lou Reed (blond era) are the main icons Haynes was attempting to evoke, but I would argue there's some Cobain in there, too. Mostly because McGregor with long blond hair looks more like Cobain than Pop or Reed. So, it may not have been as intentional as I first suggested, but I found the similarity between the two downright spooky.
Just to confirm that it isn't just me, a quick Google search brings up several other mentions of the (physical) similarity between Kurt Cobain and *Kurt* Wild, the character McGregor plays in "Velvet Goldmine." Personally, I'm more bothered by the rumor that Johnny Depp is being considered to play Freddy Mercury in a Queen bio-pic. Wha? I like Depp, but that is just plain wrong.
Wouldn't it be better to do an odd time shift thing and have everyone played by William H Macy, Steve Buscemi, and the rest of the cast of Fargo looking just like themselves but pretending to be in their twenties? Yeah..that'd be the way to do it.
Yes! Fantastic idea. In which case, I propose another Coen Brothers regular, John Turturro, for Freddie Mercury. (Just picture him in his stretchy "Big Lebowski" outfit...)
