McGregor plays a composite character in "Velvet Goldmine," as did most of the rest of the cast. I think Iggy Pop (blond era) *and* Lou Reed (blond era) are the main icons Haynes was attempting to evoke, but I would argue there's some Cobain in there, too. Mostly because McGregor with long blond hair looks more like Cobain than Pop or Reed. So, it may not have been as intentional as I first suggested, but I found the similarity between the two downright spooky.
