Can I also mention that Cross' book sucks? So not only is it going to be a terrible movie, it's a terrible movie based on a terrible book.

Oh, and that's Ewan McGregor. You know, the one who likes playing people addled with heroin.

I thought Cross' book was pretty spot on, but casting Ewan as St. Cobain is a bit of a stretch.

McGregor already played a Kurt-type character in "Velvet Goldmine" and Michael Pitt already played a Kurt-type character in "Last Days." Although I am looking forward to AJ Schnack's Cobain doc, I could do without yet another fictional representation of his life.

I disagree, Nipper. McGregor plays a composite character in "Velvet Goldmine," as did most of the rest of the cast. I think Iggy Pop (blond era) *and* Lou Reed (blond era) are the main icons Haynes was attempting to evoke, but I would argue there's some Cobain in there, too. Mostly because McGregor with long blond hair looks more like Cobain than Pop or Reed. So, it may not have been as intentional as I first suggested, but I found the similarity between the two downright spooky.

Just to confirm that it isn't just me, a quick Google search brings up several other mentions of the (physical) similarity between Kurt Cobain and *Kurt* Wild, the character McGregor plays in "Velvet Goldmine." Personally, I'm more bothered by the rumor that Johnny Depp is being considered to play Freddy Mercury in a Queen bio-pic. Wha? I like Depp, but that is just plain wrong.

Wouldn't it be better to do an odd time shift thing and have everyone played by William H Macy, Steve Buscemi, and the rest of the cast of Fargo looking just like themselves but pretending to be in their twenties? Yeah..that'd be the way to do it.

Yes! Fantastic idea. In which case, I propose another Coen Brothers regular, John Turturro, for Freddie Mercury. (Just picture him in his stretchy "Big Lebowski" outfit...)
