Does that make me un-American? Not only has the blasting of “Born to Run” here at the cafe made it impossible for me to concentrate. Now one of the boys at the table next to me is singing along! Save me!
Holy Crap!? What is it with you Stranger people? first, one of you is "hearting" Ted Leo (bleh), and now you're hatin' on The Boss? Bruce is awesome. Born to run might be a little over the top, but listen to Nebraska. good album. Yay America!
Jello Biafra refered to him once as "Bob Dylan for jocks". Personally I'm indifferent to him, but think he's at least above-average considering the Top 40 world in which he's existed for the last 25 years.
Wow, how very hipster of you to "hate" Springsteen. Can you even name 5 songs of his? Ever listened to the first record? Or maybe Nebraska? The man's done some pretty fucking amazing stuff ..

Why does Springsteen hate automatically = hipster?
Have you ever listened to a hipster? Can you even name 5 hipsters? Some hipsters have done some pretty fucking amazing stuff...
I'm pretty indifferent to the Boss myself. I don't like his singing or his workin' mayun vibe very much. On the plus side, he's not John Mellencamp; on the minus side, there's saxophone.
I AM 'unAmerican', and Bruce Springsteen helped make me that way (if by unAmerican you mean calling bs on the national myth and objecting strenuously to every Federal administration since....ever: I consider unAmericanness and Bruce Springsteen to be very good things). I have a trick I like to pull on people who profess to hate Springsteen - I put on 'Nebraska' or 'The River' or the new Pete Seeger tribute record, or the less bombastic parts of 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' and they ask 'What is this, it's amazing!' and I refuse to tell them, and then they are like, 'Why are you fucking with me, what is this?' and I say, 'Because you won't believe me, do you really like it?', and they're like, 'Yes, it's awesome!' and I ask, 'Really? Are you sure?' and they say, 'Yeah, what is it?' And then I say, 'It's Bruce Springsteen', and show them the record cover - the last time I did this I had to actually find the vinyl copy of the record, show them the label, put it on... Then they go mad and can't live with themselves.

I would like to add however, despite my Springsteen indifference, I am a huge fan of Nils Lofgren's (including his group Grin, of course) early records, although I'm not sure it really matters as this was before he joined the E Street Band. Furthermore, Clarence Clemence does get points for being in a late lineup of the amazing Pezband, but loses all those points for leaning back while hitting high notes.
Oh God thank you for the few sane people in the world. People only like Springsteen because they think they should. Show me a Springsteen fan and I'll show you an "I heart Dale Earnhart "bumber sticker

Line Out's name should be changed to Artists We Hate.
I LOVE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. It doesn't make you un-American to hate Bruce Springsteen, it just makes you a little sad to not have that joy in your life.
I agree, Ari. The Boss is neither American nor un-American. He's simply a goddamn genius.

Where are you? I'm a respected Bruce Springsteen interventionist. I can help.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood might change your mind about that song. Or not.
Bruce is dark Angela. Let the Bruce Interventionist help you help yourself.
Maybe you're irritation lies not with Mr. Springsteen, but with the asshat singing along in public?

I've heard he has a nice ass.
