I’d Like Your Hair Long

posted by on January 24 at 16:10 PM

So I just got my hair cut (Robin at Halo on 3rd always does such a lovely job). On the way there, I sang the Pavement song “Cut Your Hair.” On the way back, after losing a few inches of hair, I started singing Hum’s “I’d Like Your Hair Long.” Now, though, I can’t get Beck’s “Devil’s Haircut” out of my head.

There sure are a lot of songs about haircuts.

Ah, Haircut 100. Derided as an Orange Juice ripoff by some, they nonetheless had some great pop songs: "Love Plus One" and "Favourite Shirt". And some great sweaters. And some great lips on prettyboy Nick Heyward, who's solo records are pretty good too.

A couple of years ago a recording surfaced of their "missing" last album, sans Nick's vocals -- he left the group before recording them. Weird but fun in a bouncy island sort of way.

There's nothing better to sing while walking down the street than a few choruses of "Love plus, love plus wuh-unn". Might cause public dancing, though, which can be dangerous.

I often think of that Pavement song after a haircut. In the weeks or months before though, it's all Wesley Willis: "Take your ass to the barbershop /
Tell the barber that you're sick of looking like an asshole"

fnarf, i am happy to see that you appreciate my favorite haircut 100 song, love plus one.

nick heyward was my neighbor when i lived in england. he once stepped on my foot at the green grocer and apologized profusely. his lovely manners made me like his pop hits even more.

well, that and those juicy lips you mention.

Haircut songs - brilliant! I've been doing themes for my podcast lately and this is definitely one I'll have to use later...

Kerri, you could do nothing in that situation to betray your Americanness than fail to apologize yourself. In England, YOU apologize when someone steps on your foot!
