Your disparagement of Morrison's lyrics says just as much about your squeamishness regarding sexuality and expressions thereof as it does about his lyrical abilities (which were superior to most rock songwriters', even if you don't like the subject matter). A helluva lot of rock lyrics revolve around sex. Pretty much comes with the territory.

Deb, I've heard of the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, and I'll take three minutes of them over the entire catalog of the Doors. Squeamish about sexuality? I don't think so. Squeamish about vacuous high-school poetry about sexuality and cod spirituality, yes? Just because Morrison thinks his bollocks are mystical objects, and persuaded lots of horny little girls and gullible boys that that they were, doesn't mean it's interesting to hear about.

The injection of bad school-notebook poetry into pop music was a significant milestone in the development of rock and roll bullshit out of what had been a pretty exciting pop movement. Even a lot of deluded, Sgt. Pepper-addled goofballs like Curt Boettcher were able to make beautiful things happen against the odds; odds that were set against them by leather-trousered fuckheads like Jim Morrison and his talentless blues drones. The fact is, there was much more interesting music coming out of LA studios in the sixties from the likes of Sonny and Cher and the Monkees than from the big balls of Jim Morrison.
