Billy Joe Huels plays Buddy Holly in the 5th Ave. Theater production of ‘Buddy’, which runs until March 4th.
Holly’s widow, Maria Elena, was flown in for the opening shows. Billy Joe got to play her some songs on Buddy’s famous Stratocaster. Then he was left alone with the guitar and for a second, was tempted to take it to Mexico. He talks about it here.
The little lady cutting it up on stage at the beginning of the clip is the 72 year old Maria Elena Holly.
I think I'd be in Mexico with that thing. Billy Buddy Joe is all too honest of a man.
It has the same strings on it, from 1959? Wow. Kinda freaky.
72? Damn. Maybe you could get her in on some of the Massive Monkee stuff, Trent.
I'd take the guitar and run I can not believe that those strings are sill on there I would be scared to death to play that thing each string is probably worth 500,000 if I broke one of those things man.
Billy Joe rocks. And Buddy did too.
