good list.
if you're looking for more, well surely you've heard of atmosphere.
You, the great worshipper of the totem Missy Elliot, should of course be including "My Struggles." I mean, the sad part is really by Mary J. Blige, but still, it's raunchy and totally Missy, but still talking about how she decided to leave home and try to be a rapper even though everyone said that she totally couldn't. I like it because it's sad AND a gigantic, funky fuck you. Myabe it's not true crybaby rap because Missy would NEVER cry over a man. NEVER.
Wanna know who started that. In 1985 the main cat responsible for Tough guy Rap to cry baby rap was LL Cool J Radio album.
On it right after the funky jam 'Dear Evette'-which is a hip hop beat straight from the streets of New york, you get the 'I can give you more' which sounds like its all Motowny R and B, lovey dubby , I'm a soft guy style.
When I was a kid I couldn't stand that song because it sounded like mushy stuff my parents listen to. so I judged it whiney. and then after Track to ' You'll rock'
you get the really cybaby rap from 'I want you'. So ther ya have it. and That was my first intro to crybaby rap from a tough guy persona. LL Cool J got claim to that throne too.
Why the hell isn't "Crossroads" on here?
