Line Out: Music & Nightlife

RSS icon Comments on The Future of DJing?

Dave,

Using the question mark was appropriate because just from what I heard, the demonstration and sound didn't knock my socks off.

I also think DJs would miss their "impulsive fix" of looking for the "right item at the right time" inside the record and CD boxes they brought as well as punching in a special effect on their keyboard when appropriate.

I'm making a guess here just like trying to predict the direction of a stock, but to tell you the truth, I think the immediate future is Ableton Live.

I've heard it on Fundacion,Transitions, and Renaissance Presents: Utilities and I'm really impressed at how crisp the sound and mixing is.

Of course, I'm not a DJ and only listen to the music but from my perspective, the verdict is out from seeing this presentation.

What is your opinion of it if I may be so bold to ask?

Having just criticized ECB for calling out people who would never read Slog, I feel obliged to offer up the same response to you, Segal. I agree, this dude in the video is a total douche. But why waste your time on him? No one who reads this blog is tempted to start Wii-jaying. I mean, the type of people who read Line Out probably piss on DJs who use CDs.

More posts about cool records most of us haven't heard about and less posts about assholes coming up with new ways to play music none of us care about.

Could you get any more ethnocentric with, "to play music none of us care about"?

If only one persons likes it then your theory is shot and regardless if I'm that person or not, you just can't speak for everyone.

You are entitled to your opinion but please think more clearly before clicking on Post.

I'm on the case. Hold tight.

truthseeker: wiijing seems to me to be a fun novelty thing peepz can bust out at parties. I'm having a hard time envisioning pro DJs switching over to it, as there are more versatile/efficacious tools at their disposal (Ableton Live, Serato, etc.).

I'm pretty sure it's DJ Shift-1. It's pronounced that way because you have to hit shift and 1 to make an exclamation point.

Seconding the douche factor of the video. He's spending his 15 minutes of fame by waving a wii remote at a monitor, stop paying him your attention :P

i for one want to thank Segal for bringing this to my attention. It's interesting to see what tech geeks are coming up with. Who knows when one of these guys might come up with something that is a real breakthrough and becomes the "standard"? and as far as cd's go? i have been known to play them, and i have yet to get peed upon by any of the line out readers i know.
