An Ode to My Ex-Car

posted by on March 9 at 17:19 PM

Last December’s windstorm rendered my car totalled (a 15 foot piece of metal fell a few stories from a construction site onto the SUV next to my car, then hit my car, bending the frame). Since then I’ve gone carless since turning in the rental car, and have decided to maintain that lifestyle (at least for the next few months). I just sent in the last paperwork to the insurance company this week, making me officially car-free. In honor of that (and the death of the car I so very much loved), here are the first three songs I ever played in that car - I remember because I thought long and hard about what these songs would be while shopping.

1) Masta Ace - Sittin’ On Chrome

2) Masta Ace - Born to Roll

3) Blur - Song 2

A Load to My Pants

Here are the first three songs I played the last time that I was mistaken in thinking I was just letting a fart go:

also, if masta ace only gets a "meh" from you, i don't know how to help you. despite his occasional attention, he was largely slept on despite some very good albums.

Masta Ace's disposable arts is a cool concept cd. i don't have a lot of his juice crew-era stuff, but i can hear his influence on Eminem and Big L. i heard he stopped rapping and is an A&R or something.

ndrwmtsn,
Masta Ace's solo swan song was Long Hot Summer, another concept album (storywise it's the prequel to Disposable Arts). The album includes F.A.Y. (Fuck All Y'all) and Revelations, both observations from an MC tired of the game, tired of working so hard to receive so little. It's certainly a bittersweet album, but it's worth picking up. He's still recording, but only in collaborations to complement the more label-centric work.
