A Ricardo Villalobos remix of Beck’s Cellphones Dead is up at Little White Earbuds.

It’s pretty damn good! Not as somnabulant as Villalobos has been of late.

“One by one I’ll knock you out!”

It’s also on the new deluxe edition of Beck’s The Information.

#1 - even i, big lover of beck / big hater of scientology, put that aside. as long as he don't bring it in the music he can do whatever the fuck with his life.

I think that what an artist does with their life, their philosophy of living, or what informs them as a person is important in appreciating their work on a certain level. I'm not saying Beck shouldn't be appreciated for his music because he's a scientologist, but it certainly makes me think very differently about him as an artist/person. I think scientology is a complete scam and an utterly ridiculous belief system...and that in turn makes me think a certain way about Beck as well. I just like to know who's who and where they're coming from. James Brown kicked out the jams, but he also beat women and was into PCP...people are complicated. It's interesting to know what's behind the public fake face.

i don't know that beck has ever been "fake". he grew up as a scientologist because his father was deeply into it. he has, to my knowledge, never made any public issue out of it, or caused any drama about it. he simply has just let it stay personal.

trust me, i have such a lack of respect for most scientologists that if he did come out prosteletizing like tomkat, i'd be off him as fast as possible (when sinead oconnor started acting like a dunce, i ditched her and have never looked back.) but so far he's acted completely stand up. that's all.

until i find out there are subliminal messages on his cd's, he's my man.

There is no "somnambulant" Villalobos music, only those who do not comprehend teh psychedeliciousness of his methods.
