wamu center is at qwest field. (translation: seahawks stadium)

Noooooo. Is that the place everyone describes as a concrete bunker with terrible sound?

Hey, relax! Washington Mutual and Qwest Communications have you covered on this one!

Actually, I just got an email from hot tipper Keith, who says this room has just installed a new "Paul Allen approved sound system," if that gives you any confidence. It make's sense; "Robot Rock" totally bridges the gap between the EMP and Allen's nerdy sci-fi museum. Maybe he's angling to get their masks...

Ummmm...HELL YES to RED ROCKS...summer makes me so happy.

the Wamu Center is actually the Qwest Field Exhibition Hall. It's not the actual stadium, although I've never seen a show there so I don't know how it sounds.

Paul Allen may have financed a "remodel" but that's like putting whip cream on shit and calling it a sundae.

Still, I'm pretty excited about seeing Daft Punk play my house.

hopefully it's actually them playing.
from popbitch:
So, you're a reclusive but legendary dance act. You decide to do a few gigs. Your agent contacts the big European festivals and tells them you are prepared to do three dates only - to the highest bidders. Bidding reaches 300,000 euros, so you agree. And then your agent rings more festivals and says - ok, you'll do ten dates only, at 300k a pop. You then do these festivals dressed as robots. Except, you don't even bother going on stage for every gig, you get two replacements to work the pre-programmed synths etc.
Congratulations - you are Daft Punk!

daft punk+the rapture=epic.

that rumor you cite is bullshit, btw, john.

I heard it's actually Andy Kaufman inside both robot suits.

Weird- I heard it was two of the men claiming to be the father of Anna Nicole's baby.

"Paul Allen approved sound system"

Hey, listen up, everybody. Vance Galloway is the guy who does sound for Paul Allen. Vance is THE live sound man of this region, maybe of the whole West Coast... maybe of the entire blasted USA.

If Vance had anything do with this WAMU sound system, your worries about crap fidelity are unwarranted.

the last time i saw dp was at the showbox, i met them sans masks and they were very nice chaps. so i have no misgivings about the performers being them.

that said: the last album was absolute rubbish. a carbon copy of the best material from their discovery days.

yeah! you bet i'll be there, but it won't be for the new stuff. i'll be begging for the classics, not the classics redux.

btw. friends saw this show in london and said it was truly amazing. it apparently has lots of "fx".

Agreed about that last record, it was crap. But damn if Homework doesn't sound as fresh today as it did when it came out. That is an absolutely timeless record.

The best part about Daft Punk live is the way they break down and reconstruct their songs in ways that keep you from recognizing them at first.

So don't be surprised if you find yourself dancing to some track off the last record (was it Discovery?) and then suddenly realize "oh shit i thought i hated this song!"

I can tell you that at last year's Coachella, these guys absolutely ruled. Killed. They burned the fucking tent down, pissed on its ashes and did a dance on the grave site.

Hands down, one of the top 5 dance shows I've ever seen. Whether they can duplicate that intensity in the convention hall, I don't know-I do NOT have fond memories of that place, though it's been over a year since I've gone.

i'm going, and i'm dressing as a robot. i don't even know that that entails yet, but i've got time to figure that out.

I saw the White Strips at the WaMu Center a couple years back. It is indeed a concrete (and glass) box with horrible acoustics. I don't know if Paul Allen's man had already done his thing at that point or if it's a renovation, but as venues go, it was pretty sterile, booming, and soul-less.

I was pretty shure the wamu Theater (not center) has only been open as such for like months right? Didnt they have an opening party with Seal or something? (so i dont think you saw the white stripes there) there used to be raves and car shows and shit there but the wamu theater was not installed until very recently. http://www.wamutheater.com/ the wamu CENTER is a large tower in the financial district downtown. not that any of you wanted this much info......

except maybe they are going to play in what is supposed to be the nations largest starbucks in the lobby of the new wamu CENTER which is in the process of opening right now i believe. hehe

I second Megs' Red Rocks shout-out (it's only a day 1/2 drive from SEA). But I am very stoked for the Seattle date and know that Vance will make the WAMU Center sound pristine (he was such an indispensible part of Decibel Festival, so we're in good hands, as Dave attests).

Don't forget about those other two openers...I'll be there early for sure!

Vance = Seattle's behind the scenes speaker rockstar!

@21, the white stripes played there, but it was when it was just called the qwest field events center (or maybe when it was the seahawks stadium event center)

speaking of auto shows i wonder if kavinsky will drive onto the stage in an undead testarossa

Respect to Vance, but the reason that Decibel Festival sounds good is because of the KV2 system. The system is as plug & play as you can get. Brilliantly designed, incredibly simple to use... and it sounds awesome. And now that it is in the hands of new owners, new groups of people get to hear it!

I look forward to DP as well.

okay just for clarification.. daft punk will be playing at WaMu theater - not WaMu center?

Dave Segal you are a kind man - And I must owe you a drink or SOMETHING for saying such nice things about me in public.

And/but/however - I did not have one bit of input into the WaMu system nor will I be working the Daft Punk show (unless someone wants to phone me up). I wish I could say that I approve of the system - but I can't simply because I didn't have anything to do with designing it and I haven't used it yet. I'm not saying it sucks, I'm not saying it rocks - I can't because that's not something I participated in.

Personally - I would LOVE for this show to rock all our socks off. But the most I can do is cross my fingers. It should be good. Heavens knows it's a nice system in there. If the engineer pays attention and knows his/her stuff - this should pull off nicely!

And...much luv to you, too, Luv - but the person behind the system does matter...a LOT. KV2 may be plug and play, but keeping any show problem free and 100% on takes a LOT of care and attention. It aint just the system! As Zappa said - it's putting the 'eyebrows' o the drawing that really matters......

The praise is well-deserved, Vance. I've benefitted from your knowledge and skills often over the years.

I hope that whoever's in charge of logistics for that Daft Punk show enlists you to do the sound. That is no job for anyone but the master.

rapture? they kinda blow. u.s.e should be opening for daft punk, cuz united state of electronica are the 2nd group in the history of ever to master the vocoder. the 'punk of course are the first. And no, Neil Young's robot record from the '80's doesnt count.

@#29
Definitely agreed!
(keeping any show problem free and 100% on takes a LOT of care and attention)
it can be a thankless job, so
it sure helps when the gear kicks ass. :)

Can anyone tell me when the tickets for Daft Punk in L.A. will go on sale?
I searched the calendar for the L.A. Sports Arena and there's nothing listed for 7/21.
Help please :-)
