Vanilla Fudge - Rock Convulsion

posted by on March 24 at 11:46 AM

Here is Vanilla Fudge on the Ed Sullivan Show doing their cover of the Supremes, “You Keep Me Hanging On”.

They are delivering much psychedelic rock action. But are they rocking too hard?

Is it possible to rock too hard?

It seems like Vanilla Fudge vocalist and keyboard player, Mark Stein, may snap his head off from a convulsion of rock.

It’s one thing if it’s Slayer, or Metallica, or Hellwitch. Heads need to bang, and convulsions need to take place.

It was 1968 for the Fudge, but it just seems like there’s too much rock happening for the musicians and not the music.

Oh please... give 'em a little. I kinda like this version of the song... This was their big moment - and they were gonna be on the TV for god's sake. They had to be "on"... Though, they may even be lips sinking (darn similar to the recorded version). In this era, I'm sure the great Neil Diamond emoted his songs with equal fervor and animation. Slayer's shtick is equally silly and a hell-of-a lot more "white".

Never, it is never possible to rock too hard. Ever.

I didn't think they were rocking out too hard.

I wish some bands would rock out and move more on stage. The less you move, the more likely I am to walk away.
