Media Very VVeird Volta Teasers
Totally surprised we’re scooping Stereogum and Idolator on this! Promotional campaigns for Björk’s new album Volta are enigmatic but completely in keeping with what they’ve been like before—snippets of disorienting video, some fairly low-quality loops of sounds from the library of the new album (though not necessarily sounds from the album’s songs), some degreee of amateurism, and always with a measure of mystery or false identities.
First this happened:
Then came this peculiar MySpace profile. The profile includes four sound clips that seem to be from Volta’s library. I definitely hear the sounds of Konono Nr. 1 in the second clip, “Denoisering.” There’s some pretty heavy live drumming in a couple of the tracks. But the most compelling evidence that this is part of the promo is the video. In it you’ll hear the sounds of the brass and the Chinese pipa. And if you watch very closely (and maybe step back a bit), there’s a special guest toward the end:
You shouldn’t expect much too more than this until the first single, “Earth Intruders,” is released in early April.
UPDATE: It seems there are a few more of these leaking:
