And Now For Something I’m Not Afraid to Admit

posted by on April 26 at 14:45 PM

I love Invisible Touch-era Genesis.

That’s right. I said it.

Beck's recent puppet thing doesn't see so innovative now. Good call Megan on this Thursday Throwback clip. I wonder how my nextdoor neighbors are doing on their puppet theater construction. No lie, I'll see if they have a site to go to.

I remember walking 20 minutes down to the K-Mart to buy the single on 45.

I was twelve years old, mind you.

I guess you are kind of brave to admit to liking this....it's sort of like admitting that you like to eat boogers or collecting your toe nail clippings. Kinda gross. Genesis were a blight on music and this ugly annoying video was a serious MTV heavy rotation torture device in it's time.

YouTube has a lot of great clips of Genesis with Peter Gabriel. They started losing me with Invisible Touch, but I am still a fan.

Sally, MTV turned a lot of great bands into shit.

I *heart* Genesis. Had to stop admitting it in public, but haven't been thrown out of Seattle for it. Yet.

I am sorry Megan, I cannot walk down this road with you. God speed.

Ha ha ha....I'm sorry, how did MTV turn Phil Collins/Genesis into shit???? They were a stinky turd to begin with! I'm not talking about the pretentious arty prog costume wearing Peter Gabriel period...I never listened to that stuff....but Phil Collins on....yuck. I supposed someone's gonna pipe in as say what a classic Sussudio is.

Sussudio...that's some funny shit.

Megan, you wouldn't like this if you'd experienced it real-time, while it was happening. These assholes were all over MTV and they SUCKED.

Phil Collins in my opinion is next to the g-word, yeah genius. Unfortunately, that's what also turned him into a Live Aid criss-crossing Concorde jet-Disney singing, I don't know...stardom, it's been said before that it ain't what its cracked up to be. I think I believe it starts attacking first at the celebrity-victim's mental state. Oh well, to each is own.

Easily, Easily, two of my favorites by solo Collins were COVERS!!
'Heatwave' is a dashing song, and his video was pleasantly neat. The other, not even sure if it has a video, is 'Groovy Kind of Love.' Chills have happened once or twice when I've heard it on one of the soft-rock stations.

This is one of the best videos ever, although it'd be a lot better if Phil Collins wasn't the singer.

In fact, it'd be better if Phil Collins just didn't sing. Ever.

I remember this - great video! The UK's Spitting Image did the puppeteering.

There's a difference even between this era of Genesis, when they could put out some interesting, creative stuff, and Phil Collins solo. Collins' solo work ranged from interesting rhythmic stuff (such as "In the Air Tonight" and a cover of "Tomorrow Never Knows") to fun pop to (later on) insipid adult contemporary musak.

That said, the Gabriel era of Genesis is much more worthwhile, especially since they also had Steve Hackett on guitar. It's fun to watch "The Return of the Giant Hogweed" and the like on YouTube.

Megan, this proves you are not my lost twin as I believed and so this means we can after all have children.

#1 Becks new album to me is still electrofying. Maybe its just me but that groove on cellular phone is refreshingly wicked programming and the sounds are innovative. I haven't bought a new cd in over a year but I had to buy that one.
the last cd I bought was a nice compilation from Massive Attack.
and the Gorillas. The Gorillas has only 3 songs that are of any I'd jam from my car stereo loud.
Thank the music gods for Becks 'The Information'
You could play the whole record without skipping songs its that tough.
