Love Avetts!

Wu-Tang, Lupe, Devendra, Gogol Bordello—the Bumbershoot lineup looks pretty sweet so far. But I’m totally geeking out about the Avett Brothers. With a huge summer tour that includes appearances at Coachella and now Bumbershoot, the North Carolina trio is set to pop in a major way. After seeing them several times over the last couple years, I can tell you this: their Bill Monroe-meets-the-Violent-Femmes stage show is one of the best out there right now.
Their third full-length, Emotionalism, is set for May 15 release. Check out a track on their MySpace page.
You will be reading more about the boys here in the coming months.

Wow, I dig that. Thanks for the tip.
JZ, please tell me you've seen "Be Here to Love Me." I have it on good authority that I have seen it more times than the director himself.
i havent, actually, though i was just talking about the movie w chris mccann, who freelances for the stranger. im reading a biography of TVZ right now called "to lives to fly," which is good but not great. sounds like documentary is the way to go.
the avetts, man. i cant get enough. i have an advance copy of the new album and its tremendous.
if you liked that clip, check out this one:

thats the song that sold me on the band back in january 2005.
theres a great story behind these guys that will be told in these pages.
JZ, you are missing out. Go get the documentary. It's one of the best music docs I've seen, next to "The Ramones: End of the Century."
Townes is a fascinating story. The rich parents, poverty, alcoholism, jumping from 5th story windows ... The footage they used from an earlier doc "Heartworn Highways" will chill your bones.
Is it just me, or is today's Bumbershoot boosterism totally off pace with The Stranger/Slog's Bumbershoot reviews of past years' festivals? Didn't y'all just rip the Shins' show to shreds a few months ago? And bitch about waiting all day for 40 minutes of Mike Daisey and Jeremy Enigk in 2006? Who are you PR flaks? Bring back The Stranger.
the last time i was at bumbershoot was 1995.
even then there were huge lines, shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, hard-to-get-to shows, blah blah blah. it was super frustrating--and hardly a revelation to anyone whos been in the past few years. hating is so predictable.
which is why i will not be dissuaded in my enthusiasm for the avett brothers.
If only the Avett Bros could play in Everett. I like the sound of Avetts in Everett. That is all.
"Be Here to Love Me" is great. Just wanted to mention that the director isn't male. It was Margaret Brown's first film, after a documentary co-directed with her songwriter father Milton about singing cowboys. As far as I can tell, "Mi Amigo" (2002) remains unreleased. I'd like to see it.
