I wish Amy Winehouse would've projectile vomited onto Charolette Church...then this performance would've been even more classic.

She is drunk, right?

Church is way better than winehouse. Which is really embarrasing. Winehouse - here today, gone tomorrow.

Oh my god, it just keeps going on and on . . . who knew this song had like infinity verses? Wow.

oh. my. god. i've always disliked winehouse, but i wouldn't even wish this upon her. she has a fucking terrible voice and null songwriting skills. some of her lyrics are interesting but that's it.
i have to say that lil' charlotte church comes across as a bit of a bad ass! who knew?

man, the backlash on amy winehouse is so quick you might as well call it whiplash.

admittedly, she sounds like total ass here. damn.

quick? just so you know, this tuneless crackhead has been around for a while now. just because the disc has only now reached the pits of America doesn't mean alert listeners haven't already heard her awful voice and seen her rapid decent into drug/alcohol addiction. i wouldn't characterize it as a backlash, just a reaction to the hype machine that is rolling full steam ahead with this skank.

yeah it's just the label pushing the shit out of a crappy product, trying in vain to have another norah or john mayer. Crap, crap, crap.

Nevertheless...

Amy Winehouse "Back to Black" > Lily Allen "Alright, Still..."

Driving down the street on a hot day with the windows open, there are tracks on "Back to Black" that sound pretty damn good.

Granted, the "secret" track on the US release (the version of "You Know I'm No Good" with the rap added to it) is an absolute aural abortion...and this "Beat It" video is nigh-on Ashlee Simpson-esque awful...and it serves her right for drunkenly breaking off her front tooth...

But I can handle a little fake Motown, a little fake girl-group and a little fake Billy...

Just don't buy into the hype that she's anything more than a temporary diversion, a musical "elephant ear" let's say...but no meal, and things'll be cool.

Nothing strains one's indie-cred more than ubiquity.

Whatever. This clip is awesome and this is the best pop music to come out of this year period.

No, it is a whiplash...it was only a month ago (almost to the day!) that you people were singing her praise. Make that praises. This video is her greatest contribution to music...it's still funny as hell on the 30th viewing, whereas her other shit gets tired after the first play.

I do not understand why people have to tie Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen together every time they come up, as they make remarkably different music, unless everyone takes their cues from backstage Brit Awards drama.

Terry Miller

What is the reason why you think this version of Beat It is terrible?

Posted by truthseeker | April 6, 2007 10:29 AM

because amy winehouse is absolutely incomprehensible throught the whole song. she's singing off key, and she can't keep time with the band.

charlotte church is so milquetoast and boring she isn't even worthy of our time here.

it's just terrible.

ps i wasn't one of the people at the stranger who jumped on her band wagon in the last few weeks. but i can see why you would. the songs and videos have great pop "punch". i think the disdain comes from the fact that she is quickly turning herself into a major loser by doing things like

1) getting too drunk and heckling other people

2)getting too drunk, singing half a song, then going off stage, but still in view to throw up, then coming back onstage to finish, then running off stage with a mouth full of vomit - ready to explode again- and not returning at all. she's unprofessional in the extreme, and here hype only excells in makeing that point more prominent.

i actually don't mind her music so much, it's her i disdain.

It's so terrible that it's AWESOME.

What else could you expect her to do when karaoking alongside Charlotte "so perky I could puke" Church?

I adore Amy Winehouse and can only imagine that the same manager she fired for insisting she go to rehab booked her on this show.

Thanks, Terry.

I actually didn't like it either except for the some lead guitar parts and the tight horn section.

I was just curious to hear your perspective on why you thought it was terrible.

I appreciate your response.
