Tooting My Horn

posted by on April 26 at 17:04 PM

Further bolstering my argument that trumpet is the indie-rock instrument du jour, last night the Walkmen played with a trumpet for their entire set. A trombone too—but still, it was a brass section, notably devoid of saxophone. Go trumpet!

Also, let it be said that the Kaiser Chiefs have a couple good songs and a lot of mediocre ones.

The Walkmen were a fucking dirge, but the Kaisers saved the thing, lit up the place like master pop-stars, allowing the audience to jump up, and then down, again and again.

"Jesus, that was fun," one of us said.

And we smiled.

As someone who once played saxophone in a rock band and was eventually dismissed, I definitely agree with your overall thesis. But neglecting to mention Louis Armstrong in your roll-call of trumpet ambassadors is a big oopsy. Cool article, though!
