Your Perfect Modest Mouse Set?

posted by on April 16 at 11:00 AM

I’m working on a full review of last night’s Modest Mouse show, but in the meantime I thought I’d post their set list from last night and pose a question: If you could create a Modest Mouse set list of a dozen songs—your perfect Modest Mouse concert—what would they be?

Here’s last night’s set:

Bury Me With It
Black Cadillacs
Dashboard
Paper thin walls
Fire It Up
Trailer trash
Bukowski
Missed the Boat
Cockroach
Tiny Cities Made of Ashes
We’ve Got Everything
Float On
The view
(Encore):
Ocean Breathes
Spitting Venom

And here’s a hasty stab at sequencing my own dream set:

3rd Planet
Never Ending Math Equation
Teeth Like God’s Shoeshine
Fire It Up
Summer
The Good Times Are Killing Me
Interstate 8
Tundra/Desert
Florida
Trailer Trash
The World At Large
Float On

I've always wanted to hear MM play "Shit Luck" live...

They used to, and it was explosive. I fear that if they played it these days someone would get moshed to death.

my dream set would have been one that didn't begin 25 minutes late and had vocals that weren't so low.

nice to see them on a big stage, making a big sound, though. visually lovely.

How about the Modest Mouse set where the KLF storm on stage with assault rifles that are actually loaded this time, killing the entire band except for Johnny Marr (merely wounded in both legs) who they then drag off for deprogramming?

um.

Just a thought.

traiker trash
the view
here it comes
gravity rides everything
paper thin walls

The show last night was ok. The old songs they played sounded great and the two druumer set up was really cool. Every thing off the new album sounded like someone took a shit in a box and tried to pass it off as a song. I think modest mouse has come to it's end. Lets all hope we hear more from Ugly Casanova!

number 9 is right. KLF would do a better job living then MM. I would love their set to be their last. I dont like them at all.

I would get rid of Modest Mouse, put Johnny Marr in a time machine and go back to the 80s and reunite him with The Smiths. They would play this set list possibly:

This charming man
How soon is now?
Girlfriend in a coma
There is a light that never goes out
The death of a disco dancer
Hand in glove
Heaven knows I'm miserable now
Reel around the fountain
The boy with the thorn in his side
I know it's over
Please please please let me get what I want

youre picks are pretty weak.... come on? Flont On as the Encore, their encore should be something old school like "shitluck", somewhat associating with what XXLP said... and to go with the all the Smith Covers set, Modest Mouse aint no Phish band. I think Phish needs a little criticize alone for doing one set out of 3 being a cover. Tho Phish never did cover The Smiths, and Modest mouse would perform The Smiths covers much better than Phish.
