I Turn To Stone When You Are Gone

posted by on May 1 at 16:38 PM

I am definitely obsessing right now–-hard. I am obsessing over a deep feeling, an feeling that is speaking to me. It’s saying, “Ari Spool, don’t you wish you were a member of the Electric Light Orchestra?

To which I reply, “YESSSSSS PLEASE MIND MAKE IT SO I LOVE ELO SO MUCH I AM ROCKING OUT SO CRAZY RIGHT NOW AND I HAVE LOTS OF PENT UP AGRESSION THAT I NEED TO LET OUT IN A HEALTHY WAY AND I NEED TO BE LOUD AND GET INTO “LIVIN’ THING” REALLY HARD WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO AAAAHHHHHHHHH!”

And my feeling says, softly, in a whisper, “Karaoke, my dear.”

Phew. It feels so good to solve your urges.

Did you lipsync at the Apples in Stereo show? They channeled ELO on their new LP. YouTube has the juice, but Neumos had the squeeze. All of it pretty much nonfiction (see Ellington's "don't get around much anymore")

Wouldn't it be fantastical to hear Don't Bring Me Down at about midnight this Friday at Chop Suey?

My favorite ELO is from Out of the Blue, vinyl Side Three, "Concerto for a Rainy Day", which is a four song suite beginning with "Standing in the Rain" and ending with "Mr. Blue Sky" Fucking brilliant.

the best ELO LP is the first ELO LP, it's a rock record pretty much made on cellos ONLY. seriously, so good! the second one is awesome too!

ELO is awesome to the core. Growing up I always associated them with pure crap, and I attribute it somewhat to the name (Electric Light Orchestra is a mere hop, skip and jump away from Allan Parsons Project in terms of band names).

But, Jeff Lynne is a master. It is with no irony that I have a bunch of ELO on my mp3 player.

Has anyone listened to the L.E.O. project CD that came out last year? Inspried by ELO, of course.
