Matt Sharp’s post-Weezer synth-pop supergroup, the Rentals, have announced a monthlong Saturday-night residency at L.A.’s Spaceland. The dates are July 7, 14, 21, and 28. The band are currently at work on their long-awaited follow-up to 1999’s criminally underrated Seven More Minutes.

It's kinda like when Jewel did a coffeehouse loop between Vancouver-Seattle-Portland for a month in '95. Courtesy the flood of mail coming into Tullycraft HQ, I was able to get a promo glossy signed by her:
"Hey Guys, Thanks for the Drugs!"
The old Puss Puss Cafe (now Manray) was yodelin up a storm that night. "Stephenville, TX" off her latest has great lyrics, including a line about cleavage.

The Spaceland's residency is fantastic -- if you're in LA it's totally worth checking out. And on Monday the residency shows are FREEEEE! A great way to start the week. (The Rentals are on Saturdays, though.) Where are our free Monday shows in Seattle?

seven more minutes is kinda bad. then again i love weezer's green album. return of the rentals however is wonderful and the "friends of p." b-side "so soon" is even better.

Hopefully the Rentals will regain some of their early spark and prevent Matt Sharp from ever releasing another painfully emo solo effort.
