What a great evening! Mr. Frizelle reading some of the best passages out of Didion's "The White Album"! (I will always remember that scene of Morrison lighting a match to his leather trousers as much as when I first heard Lou Reed sing, "Different colors made of tears") With smooth style, too. Joan from Sub Pop reading Jessica Hopper! Sean Nelson reading the liner notes for the Chris Bell album (and avoiding the obvious commentary of his wrestling with being a gay Christian) and Ian Hunter's immortal bio (the new Mott the Hoople "Under Review" DVD is actually really good, Sean -- I NEED those first four Mott albums now; it totally makes sense what Mick Jones brought to the Clash now too). This was like the EMP Pop Conference in one night but less exhausting and more inclusive to both the historical rock press fan and those who are not in the inner geek writer's circles. Bravo!
