Out of Town Trumpet Still Trumping

Feedback for our trumpets of triumph story keeps rolling in.
John McGrew of the New Technology department of Sony BMG in New York emailed a link to his band John McGrew and the Sit Backs. The website sports a homey, stick-figure design and McGrew’s music is terrific, cabaret chamber folk with soul. Not surprisingly, there’s a strong trumpet presence, floating warm and bright above firmly-strummed acoustic guitar and bowed upright bass. I’m guessing that’s McGrew’s voice in there, strong but quivering and tender. There’s a definite throwback quality to the music, a sort of Prohibition-era ease and low-tech minimalism.
It’s quite a find. Go ahead and check out the MP3s on the site. You’ll dig.
And thanks for the link, John.

You know the guy who does the Ellington-esque improvs onj the Victrola, Globe cafe, Chai house...piano roundabouttowns. I don't think I've ever seen a trumpener accompany him. Tomorrow though, saw him jogging panting start stop (perhaps to a gig) on the 23rd ave sidewakl. He's tall, skinnieish, hair short, in the halfay between style of Malcolm Gladwell and Steven wright. Not an act though, just natural, and doing the best at maintaining. He's wearing a sweatshirt tucked in to belted jeans. Gawd, who amI . Dick the P.I. scooping? without a cause? Besides, it was adroitly southended from the discount smoke encased glassshop kitty-=street from the post office. In the words of David SAchmaders; Spaderighter, oopss Just Shooo me.

It's time to dwell on a new instrument possibly.
