Road Diary Four Dudes on a 90-Degree Day

Wednesday, June 13—Los Angeles
The four of us—Jumbo, Vurs, Shines, and myself—were just stuck in a 28-square foot elevator for 20 minutes. Not a good look for four dudes on a 90-degree day. The show must go on and right now they’re recording a segment for NPR at the host’s apartment. Upon entering the kitchen I discovered an interesting concert poster of a Digable Planets show at DV8 way back in February 1995, less than six months after the release of the group’s second album Blowout Comb. And here’s a fact most people don’t know: Frontman Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler hails from Seattle’s Garfield High School.

"And here’s a fact most people don’t know: Frontman Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler hails from Seattle’s Garfield High School."
Wha? That is so wrong: most girls who have ever been to a club in Seattle know this, because Ishmael has slept with 80% of them, and all he can talk about is Garfield High, his years with the Digable Planets, and his struggle to get his life together and get of the blow.
I remember going to that 1995 show. They were cooler than cool at the time.
I was at that DV8 show, too... (I was the resident dj two nights a week there at the time)
Not only were the Digables awesome...but look at the poster at who the opening act was...
Spearhead.
That was a sweet show...
I forgot about Spearhead. That wasn't long after Disposable Heros of Hiphopcrasy...That seriously was a killer show.
"Oh I just love that Michael Frente..."
