Queen - the Hero Composed

posted by on June 23 at 14:31 PM

200px-Queen_Flash_Gordon.jpgThe midnight movie tonight at the Egyptian Theatre is a special, special, monster of an 80’s treat:

Flash Gordon with music by Queen.

On the planet Mongo, the Earth must be saved from Ming the Merciless.

The soundtrack by Queen was released only months after their album, The Game.

It’s more synth centered than Queen was used to and is mostly a collection of shorter instrumentals. Some of Brian May’s finest composing.

It is a great, epic encapsulating record. The signature circumference of Queen sounds rouse and lure with combustion, warmth, and beautiful fervor.

One of the greatest rock bands of all time here renders and engages the archetype of the hero.

I wish more bands would do entire movie soundtracks.

Freddie Mercury, Freddie Mercury, Freddie Mercury, and Freddie Mercury.

I also wish more bands would do more complete movie soundtracks, but I feel like these days, the only bands who would be up for such a task are the Fall Out Boys and My Chemical Romances of the bunch. But maybe not?

Air did a great job with the Virgin Suicides. I wanna see more stuff like that. C'mon, Craig Finn, make some calls. Bring Nightclub Dwight to the big screen!

True True Dat, T.

A great soundtrack, I had the cassette. Side two was better than side one for me. "The Football Theme" or song was the best.

Movie is so so, but it's Queen.

I think there are a few bands out there who could come up with an interesting movie soundtrack.....

i would love to hear the mars volta score some kind of deranged sci-fi movie.

some of the more dramatic, ambitious bands could possibly pull it off. Im thinking of bands like Radiohead, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails

i'd like to see a zombie movie scored by the melvins and/or mike patton

@5 - you nailed it before I had a chance to.

Melvins, Melvins, Melvins. Just have a listen to "Pigs of the Roman Empire" and understand they're good to go.
