Album With Apologies to Our Dedicated Freelancers…

There is NO WAY the new Sky Cries Mary CD, Small Town (four stars!) is better than the fantastic new Art Brut album, It’s a Bit Complicated (three and a half).
Also: The new issue is online, including CD reviews.

Um, Sky Cries Mary is the worst band of all time? So, yeah, Art Brut is better than that. A lot better.
I can't believe wannabe ethereal 4 A.D. band Sky Cries Mary are still around, with that horrible font. Art Brut are easily better, but that lead "singer" yammering on with his over-exaggerated english accent gets so annoying after one song.
Musically, right, the new Art Brut is shit.
He keeps remaking "Formed A Band" like no one will notice. The review's too gentle, if anything.
At least Sky Cries Mary has bottomed-out expectations going for it.
Long ago, before there were more indie bands than anyone could possibly keep track of or care about or tell the difference between, I went to a free Sky Cries Mary concert at Volunteer Park. There were lots of proto-burning man hippies in the audience. People got naked. Fun was had.
This must fall under the same disease syndrome as artists who *finally* win their 1st grammy long after they stopped being relevant. I'm not a fan of SCM myself, but I respect the time they put in as old-school seattle music. They were doing their own thing when everyone was rocking nordstrom flannels. Seattle tends to be pretty snide to it's musical history. But Eric is still right.
#4- first show I ever saw in Seattle. Hella fun. SCM may not be the coolest shit out, but you can't hate on their stripes.
