It sounds like you were a lot less impressed with Aesop Rock than I was. He blew me away. Although, I didn't have any expectations beforehand.

And I don't think I've felt more ambivalent about a band than I do about Spoon. Totally agree with your assessment. They're technically solid, inoffensive...milquetoast.

I think Spoon has been boring live every time I've seen them but their recordings are often daring and nuanced in a way that's easy to ignore because how great they are at putting a catchy tune together. Ghosts of post-punk and motown strutting hand in hand.

'Milquetoast' is far, far off the mark as far as I'm concerned but I could give two shits about Girl Talk or a lot of what Eric and Ari are into so, maybe this is a Diff'rent Strokes moment.

Spoon's boring... too bad you didn't catch Dyme Def though, that show was incredible!!! So much better than Aesop Rock. Yeah, Aes might be a powerful performer, but Dyme Def is tight and old-school. Talent, I tell you.

Did you not notice Aesop Rock introducing his "Hype Man" Rob Sonic at least 3 times? Or that 3 of the songs were actually Rob Sonic's? Oftentimes a rapper will bring out a fellow artist to help gain them exposure, Which was obviously a futile effort in this case; since the reporter covering the show didn't bother to find out anything about who they were covering. And i would hardly describe DJ Big Wiz's 5 minute turntable solo "straight forward backing." Get it straight or stay out of my music scene.

Along with others I am surprised they didn't care enough, or pay attention, to research anything about Rob Sonic...anything but your typical 'hypeman'. Then again in the next section he talks about missing the band 'to go eat sushi'. The Aesop Rock set was the highlight of the day for myself.
