I was talking about my street cred, Jackson, not theirs. Sensitive much?

Also, thanks to the labor reforms fought for by radical activists like Against Me!, my job now grants me dinner breaks.

If I had said to you, "You should really listen to my best friend's band, they're awesome!" I would have lost way more street cred than you did when you got sushi.

I'm jk-ing, girl. But what if you said that to me while eating sushi? You'd be such a sell-out! And you'd probably spit rice all over me.

It sounds like you were a lot less impressed with Aesop Rock than I was. He blew me away. Although, I didn't have any expectations beforehand.

And I don't think I've felt more ambivalent about a band than I do about Spoon. Totally agree with your assessment. They're technically solid, inoffensive...milquetoast.

I guess I should've been more explicit about it, but I thought Aesop Rock was great. "None Shall Pass" was especially rousing. And the new album is solid, too.

Milquetoast is the best word ever to describe Spoon. Safe is another good one. Boring would work, too.

I think discussing things over sushi immediately would turn us into yuppies. Fuck that shit! Tattoos and booze forever!

yo spoon is ill. the soft effects ep is really great and so is girls can tell. seriously.

what don't you like? they have a distinctive sound and a singer you either love or hate with a fake accent!

i admit, it's hard to find words to say exactly why i like spoon, but what exactly are the charges against them?

I think Spoon has been boring live every time I've seen them but their recordings are often daring and nuanced in a way that's easy to ignore because how great they are at putting a catchy tune together. Ghosts of post-punk and motown strutting hand in hand.

'Milquetoast' is far, far off the mark as far as I'm concerned but I could give two shits about Girl Talk or a lot of what Eric and Ari are into so, maybe this is a Diff'rent Strokes moment.

Heather Cox is the best rock photographer in Seattle, by far.

Spoon's boring... too bad you didn't catch Dyme Def though, that show was incredible!!! So much better than Aesop Rock. Yeah, Aes might be a powerful performer, but Dyme Def is tight and old-school. Talent, I tell you.

Fits, google Rob Sonic. Check out some of his stuff. I think you'd dig some of it. Hypemen are often just regular old rapper dudes who know their homies lyrics good enough to handle the backup duties.

Geez Eric, you would have thought you would have heard about the Pleasureboaters from any of the dozens of times Megan has mentioned them in the paper?

Who's Megan?

Did you not notice Aesop Rock introducing his "Hype Man" Rob Sonic at least 3 times? Or that 3 of the songs were actually Rob Sonic's? Oftentimes a rapper will bring out a fellow artist to help gain them exposure, Which was obviously a futile effort in this case; since the reporter covering the show didn't bother to find out anything about who they were covering. And i would hardly describe DJ Big Wiz's 5 minute turntable solo "straight forward backing." Get it straight or stay out of my music scene.

Along with others I am surprised they didn't care enough, or pay attention, to research anything about Rob Sonic...anything but your typical 'hypeman'. Then again in the next section he talks about missing the band 'to go eat sushi'. The Aesop Rock set was the highlight of the day for myself.

Thanks, @14, I'll check him out. I missed the DJs turntable solo, but that sounds pretty awesome. I wish I'd caught it.

Another omission from the Aesop recap was that Seattle's own Grayskul came out to perform a song with Aesop, a highlight for anyone who cares about local hip-hop.

Sept. 11 - New Grayskul album! Show at Chop Suey!

Eric - Maybe it's just me missing some sarcasm on the internet here, but just in case you were serious I was talking about Megan Seling. She writes up pretty much every show the Pleasureboaters play.

But of course, I'm pretty sure you're just messing with me, and I feel like a fool.
