Everything I Didn’t Know I Learned From Watching VH1

posted by on July 5 at 15:59 PM

I had no idea, until VH1 told me last night, that the famous “Oh!” in EMF’s song “Unbelievable” was actually a sound bite from Andrew Dice Clay.

That’s really funny.

Funny, I knew that too. But then again I knew weird crap about that Schubert Dip album.

One thing I found out today that I never knew - JD Samson in Le Tigre is a woman? Weird, I guess that cover of This Island totally threw me off. Great record by the way..

The full sample, in effect if not in fact -- and I never understood how they got away with it -- is, "Oh! What the fuck was that?"

The album is glorious.

The song's title is actually a reference to a sample from Dice as well...

"Unbelievable...Un-fucking-believable..."

You hear Dice say "it's unbelievable" after the first chorus.

I seem to remember that there was a techno/cut & paste-style track that came out that had "Unfuckingbelievable" as the main cut...probably to promote "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" in 1990 (and I think that's where EMF got the sample for their track which came out in 1991--but I'm not positive about that...)

And yes, Schubert Dip is a great album. Better than the first Jesus Jones album, better than Pop Will Eat Itself, on par with Ned's Atomic Dustbin...not quite as good as the KLF.

KLF. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

pg--KLF is gonna rock ya!

God bless the KLF. Anyone else dig Bill Drummond's book "45"
