Last Night My Take On Battles

I wasn’t planning to recap Battles, but since I was called on it, here ya go. My mind wasn’t blown. I’m not saying they aren’t good (they are), and I can’t say I didn’t enjoy their output (I did), but it just didn’t hit me as hard as it apparently did everyone else (except for that chest-crushing encore - holy shit). I felt like I was seeing a very good band, not the Future of Music. They didn’t do anything wrong, I was thoroughly impressed by the drummer, who was completely soaked with sweat by the end, and the usage of guitars as MIDI controllers was inspired. But at the end of the night, it was another night, another band, not OMFG!!!!BESTBANDEVAR!!!!!1!!!. Perhaps my mind can only be blown once in a week, and that was already done by Melt Banana on Tuesday.
dragon warrior soundtrack before melt-banana's set was killer. i hadn't seen melt-banana in a while and i'm thrilled they're going at it with more intensity than ever. book of black earth were good too.
Well, this type of shit has been going on since Don Caballero lost their other guitarist. Now they just a little electronics. shrug.
I saw Battles play with Evaporators and the Icarus Line a few years ago. A friend of mine glared at me and she said "this is soooooo dude rock."
I saw that same Icarus Line/Battles/Evaporators show, Battles were definitely the low part of the night. John Stanier is really the only reason to give a shit about this band. They're not even dude rock, they're music critic rock.
Now Melt-Banana the other night.... HOLY SHIT, that was a show!
