Werewolves & Lollipops!

Patton Oswald DVD Screening @ Chop Suey

Patton Oswalt’s new CD/DVD, Werewolves & Lollipops is out on Sub Pop tomorrow, but you can hear the comedy of tomorrow tonight! at Chop Suey. And Oswalt is fucking funnyómore gleefully whimsical than label mate David Cross, less pasty and pear shaped than Eugene Mirman. If the surreal prospect of going to a nightclub to watch a pre-recorded DVD of a live performance from a different nightclub doesn’t blow your mind, how about this: IT’S FREE! People’s Republic of Komedy hosts the screening, which also includes the premiere of Black Daisy’s new joint, The Hardy Har Har collection.

You have to respect the hustle of People's Republic of Komedy. Those guys have been grinding so hard in raising awareness of the local comedy scene, you have to admire them wether you think they're funny or not. (Which most of them are!)

Before they came around, there was Giggles in the u-district and that was it. And who wants to watch comedy with a bunch of frat boys who didn't get half the jokes?

But P.R.O.K. have worked so hard in raising the stock value of not just the people in their crew, but the people involved with their scene. Nowadays, there's almost a different comedy nite/venue in every major Seattle neighborhood. You can thank PROK for half, if not most of that.

They just recently got the Bumbershoot nod of local approval, and I hope they fucking kill it. Odds are, with the rumoured line-up that they have, they probably will.

Chop Suey is soon going to be just another notch for them. Congrats to them. To infinity and beyond, PROK! You deserve it.

Uhm... I lived there for 7 years. If anything, I noticed that the neighborhood's been losing it's character and personality steadily for a while. Sure, there's more than frat-boy's that go there. There's also methed-out ave-rats, underage kids who other people prey upon, and a *really* shitty music scene that barely motivates people to check out shows in their own neighborhood. Sorry if my words of encouragement towards PROK made you realize that.
