Annoyed in the ’70s

posted by on August 1 at 13:07 PM

In 1977, my 15-year-old, older brother was at the Foghat concert.
The phone rang and my dad answered. It was—as it always was in those days—a call for my brother.

My dad, annoyed at everything: the fact that my brother was at a rock concert on a school night; the fact that the call was for my brother; the fact that the 70s were happening, had this to say to the caller—”No. No. No, he’s not here. He’s at the Fog Head concert!”

That reminds me of an infamous day in the life circa 1989 of myself and my old friend Clair. We were riding a bus through the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, where we were students at the time. We glanced up at a dorm (er..."residence hall") window and saw a neon sign. One of us says to the other, "Oog Ah...?" trying to figure out what it said. It wasn't until we got closer that we realized that it said FOGHAT. From that day on I have always referred to Foghat as Oog Ah.

The question remains, why would a student in the late 80s even possess a Foghat neon sign?!?!
