I know it takes all kinds, and there's no accounting for tastes, etc., etc., but I really can't help but see this as the result of some insidious mass delusion, or a joke gone too far, or perhaps a case of Imminent Death Syndrome.
Levislade....I think I'm agreeing with you...if you're saying you don't understand why the entire world loves Joanna Newsom's music.
That is what I am saying, SSL. That is what I am saying.
Well Sir, then I do agree with you! I do!
I have to say though, I read an interview with her and she seems like a really cool person. But, that voice...coupled with that harp playing...just not for me is all I will say.
Joanna Newsom is brilliant. One of the best songwriters currently making music. It did take a bit for me to warm up to her voice, but once I did, she became one of the most magnetizing artists I had ever heard. Her show at the Showbox last year on the Ys tour blew my mind.
I'm with Levislade on this one. Can't get behind the JN at all...
i dont know whats wrong with you guys.
i cant fucking wait.
Newsom's music is like grabbing a peach, biting into it expecting sweetness, but instead getting a really sour lemon taste... while someone in the background runs nails against a chalkboard.
ooh ooh can i write something bad about a musician too .....
.....like you guys up there are doing something worth sharing
like me grandma says-
if you don't have anything good to say,
well then...
I do not concur. JN's music is fantastic. Her voice is playful and spritely (bjorkian), and addictive. The lyrics are put together so intentionally, fit together like a hand-made crazy quilt, with the sensibility of some sort of obsessive outsider artist. The first listening of Ys straight through made me cry because of the cathartic power of her words about the meteor/ite/oid
Yeah, on paper she's an embarrassment, but in my ear she makes me so very happy, and all the playa hating in the world's not going to take that away from me. Doesn't seem like her strange balancing act can last forever but at this moment she's the real deal.
