Portland may have cheaper housing and indie rockers, but we've got Eric Grandy! Wait...I wish we had cheaper housing. Oh well.....

The Oregonian ran a similar article last Sunday, minus the factual errors (Malkmus has lived in Portland well over 10 years now, Matt Ward moved away last year, and Johnny Marr does not live there but did rent a place while recording the MM album).

What these articles fail to mention is how these musicians are buying up cheap houses in formerly ghetto neighborhoods in NE and SE Portland. Five years from now these same folks will probably bemoan the gentrification of their neighborhood when the last of the black folks have to move to make way for another Thai restaurant or recording studio.

Buying property is so indie! Renting is for goths, then.
