Album So Happy to Have the Blues

In the new issue of The Stranger (which will be online later today and on the streets later tonight) I gush about the Tucson hardcore band Blues, who have revived my love of hardcore with their EP Death and Taxes, which they released earlier this year on local label Rome Plow.

It sounds fan-tas-tic, but the album art is what clinches it in my mind as one of my favorite releases of 2007 (so far… it’s in the top 10, but with three more months worth of new music still to come, it could very well get bumped… we’ll see).
The front of the disc:

And the back:

And what’s on the disc, sounds like this (it’s hardcore, kids, not the usual indie rock sissy shit I’ve been tripping on lately): “Gargantuan Bumout” (via Rome Plow)
Oh Blues, I love you.

You know what I didn't tell you? That Ryan Claudon gave me that record to give to you like three months ago. And I kept it because it was good and cool looking. And then I felt guilty so I gave it to you, as I was originally supposed to. I am a horrible person, because I can see that it brings you much joy, and you could have been experiencing that joy three months ago.
Ari, how could you?! It's not your fault, though. I saw Blues play once earlier this year and they were great and I meant to pick up the EP since then (I think it came out in February or something), and I never did. My bad.
Ryan, however, should smack you upside the head for your crappy delivery service.
I don't know why he trusted me in the first place, honestly. I don't have a great track record.
I hope you came out to see them when they played at our place (HTFC)! It was so brutal, and Snakepit has restored my faith in hardcore as well. I was psyched that we were able to send those fine fellows on the road with some cash. They also happened to be some of the sweetest guys I've ever met.
Thanks for being so understanding about our secrecy! HTFC HEART MEGAN SELING FOREVER!
— What a great band, and awesome dudes... Seattle is lucky to have had them in town a few times thus far.
They really killed it at HTFC the other night, and a few months back at the SS Marie Antoinette. Megan, I know in the paper you complain about a lack of bass, but it definitely NOT lacking when they play live. I don't know if you were at the show the other night, but the bass was almost overwhelming. SO GOOD.
Glad to see this band getting some press. They have a new LP out ("Snakepit") on Corrosive that is equally as good.
I wish they would tour the lEast coast now.
