“We Ain’t Graduate From School, Nigga!”

The new video for Lupe Fiasco’s new single “Dumb It Down” off his upcoming LP The Cool:

Lupe takes great pride in his rap’s intelligence. Gotta love the dude. I bet Michael Eric Dyson can rock to this. This guy, maybe not:

nice change of pace from the last two up-rocking singles. im gonna have to listen a couple more times before making a final verdict, but im into it.

also, the token yuppie whiteguy: tired cliche. might as well give him a cigar to chomp.

still, i like what hes getting at, even if its a more ham-fisted approach than usual for lupe.

I know, because we'd all totally get it if the A&R character were played by the token hood guys on the first chorus, right?

Anyway, only thing that bugs me about the racial prejudice portrayed in this video is I'd be surprised if Lupe Fiasco has EVER let a white dude of ANY kind from a label tell him to dumb it down.

At some point, someone's gonna have to admit that rap is only lightly salted at worst. The Jerry Heller stereotype is still funny but it's not really relevant.

You know what's funny is Lupe was probably just being good talent and deferring to his video director's vision anyway, so what the fuck do we know?

Does the video work? Yes.

Is the song good medicine. Heck yeah it is.

Done deal for me.
