White Stripes Cancel Tour

posted by on September 11 at 19:29 PM

From a band statement reported on Pitchfork:

“The White Stripes announced today that they are canceling their forthcoming tour due to health issues. Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time.

“The White Stripes sincerely apologize to their fans. ‘We hate to let people down and are very sorry.’

“Fans can obtain refunds for their tickets at point of purchase.”

Damn. If only there was any other drummer on the planet that could match Meg White’s chops…

Typically snide.

Personally I'm bummed, they're great live. I saw them in the Yukon and they were amazing, Meg included. Nice people too.

Pretty low blow, considering how fucking awesome the white stripes are as song writers and as a unique band.

But, in the most literal sense, his snide remark is right on the money. I'm a longtime fan of the Stripes, but I will admit that she ain't no John Bonham.

Great zing. The White Stripes are so fucking overrated.

Jack White = totally awesome musician and performer.

Meg White = not totally awesome.

I don't think being a totally awesome technically proficient drummer/musician/John Bonham is the point of where they come from, that's just stupid.....they're a great band, totally basic simplistic drumming and all. The White Stripes live are loud, sloppy, primal....bascially fun. I'll take that over Neil Peart any day.

@6 - Please don't misconstrue my prior comment as any kind of endorsement of Neal Peart. Meg White has much bigger balls on drums than Neal Peart will ever have (which is also to say, Neal Peart has no balls, period).

Y'know, Meg White is likable. Kinda reminds me of my girl, if she was a heroin addict and drummer. Eric Grandy, on the other hand, has never been particularly likable to me and gets less so all the time. Funny how that works. The snide sniping at the sweet and getting the appropriate reactions from all the appropriate people. Whatev.

it's easy for "fucking in the streets" to make that low jab because he can't even cut it on a real drum kit. he just stands his skinny honky self behind the turntables and let's the records play the beats for him!

ooh!
