As my parting shot today, I'd like to pass on to you all a music game that was passed on to me by the wonderful young men (and Richie) of Police Teeth having been passed to them from one Bradley...

Comment by Milton Bradley

Are we talkin' "Have A Nice Day" Bon Jovi or "Runaway" Bon Jovi. Contrary to popular belief, Seattle musicians and music lovers aren't totally jaded hipsters compelled by irony.

We do like to play "6 Degrees Of Busta Rhymes" every now and then, so maybe you're onto something.

Oh, you have to take the whole Bon Jovi package as you do with any artist. The game also will only work if you are willing to concede at the outset that Bon Jovi had (a few) really good songs and (occasionally) rocked. Sure, you can hand-wave it and say that you only enjoy it as kitschy or as a guilty pleasure but you will unlock the true power of BOWTBJ only through admitting that Slippery When Wet is at least as good (enjoyable may be more correct) as, say, The Moon and Antarctica or Summer Teeth or St. Anger or that Robbie Fulks record that came out on Geffen. Free your ironic appreciation and your ass will follow, or something of that nature.

Yeah.."Have a nice Day" is like the WORST song ever written but a lot of stuff uptil and including "Keep The Faith" is pretty decent pop-rock. I mean, given the choice would you rather listen to some old Celine Dion record or "New Jersey"? As for Bryan Adams...hey anyone remember that 'extreme' record "18 Till I die" - it had a few good pop songs on it?. Anyway, between Celine Dion & Bryan Adams, well its Adams again any day of the week.

Weezer: Worse (Nothing Bon Jovi has done is as bad as "Beverly Hills", and at least BJ know their mersh.)

Beat Happening: Better

Cannibal Corpse: Tie

The Bismarck: Tie (Though Eric might be as dreamy as JBJ.)

Otep: TDB

Reverb Motherfuckers: TBD

Nashville Pussy: Worse

Pinback: Tie (I don't think anyone in BJ is a big an asshole as I've seen Rob Crow be live, but then he did sing on a Jehu song.)

(International) Noise Conspiracy: Worse
