Really? I just heard this band for the first time last week, and it struck me as pretty middle-of-the-road, cheeseball, yah-dude kinda stuff.

Really? Which album(s) you listen to? They're mainly R&B/funk based with some rock infusion, not much strictly blues speaking.

Beside the obvious Pearl Jam connection, I'd say it has mainly to do with the people involved being part of the Seattle scene/establishment since the 80s, which according to many, w/o their influence the early 90s wouldn't have happened. And believe it or not, there are still a lot of people alive that listened, and still listen to that era of music and what has followed.
