I can't dance. And won't. Not until Morgan shows me the ropes and I get over that whole feeling-like-an-idiot thing.
Who is Morgan
I Wonder If I Take You Home - Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam w/ Full Force
"One Nation Under A Groove"... or Incredible Bongo Band's "Apache"...
"Wanna be Startin' Somethin'" by MJ, "B.O.B." by Outkast, "Wishing" by Flock of Seagulls, "The New Workout Plan" by Kanye.
"Flashlight"
I've got to be honest, Terry. I was a fan of Chicago dating back to "Saturday in the Park"--AND, I was a club dj from 1981 on...
...and I'd never even HEARD "Street Player" until The Bucketheads sampled it in "The Bomb".
I then found a bootleg copy of the Street Player extended mix 12" and started cross-mixing between the two...but I never got the sense that the crowds I played for were aware of the original song.
So many pre-90's "classics" have a certain regionality to them--as a DJ, I could always tell where a person grew up by what they requested. I always chalked "Street Player" up as an example of that--and I associate "Street Player" with New York...
Granted, I was living (and dj'ing) in Wisconsin until '92...and I tended to spin in the more commercial clubs once I moved out here, missing out on Seattle's gloriously sleazy club past...and probably a lot of great music memories because of it.
And, to answer the question...
Sadly, I'm long absent from dancing in clubs...but when I want to get those old club juices flowing, I find myself pumping up anything by Chromeo in the car...
PS--Terry, I'm sure you would have some fun conversations with NWDMA's John England. :)
