A Show I Wish I Could Go To

Have you heard about this shit? Artist and illustrator David Shrigley made a record, sort of. He made up a bunch of lyrics and made them into drawings, and then all of a sudden all these crazy good bands (Islands, Liars, Scout Niblett, Final Fantasy) and music legends (David Byrne!) were fighting each other to record them (srsly! arguments occurred!).

You can only see the show in Berlin, NYC, or London. Laaaaame. I wish I had a sugar daddy to fly me out there (but then I couldn’t date Nick Diamonds).

er, i guess a time machine would be needed for the berlin and london installations at this point.

I think expedia has rates for time machines.

i saw them live last year and i'm REALLY, REALLY not feeling islands. the compilation seems like a good idea, though a bit forced, but dude... islands headlining?

A friend of mine had the same problem, cosby, and this is what I told him to do: Listen to Return to the Sea from beginning to end, straight through. It's a concept album, and I think if you listen to it mixed up a lot of the meaning is lost. They don't play it in order live, so you might be experiencing the same loss of information.

Hell, listen to Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?, maybe "2014," and then Return to the Sea in order. Nick Diamonds is a concept man.

Conceptually, he's my man. Hands off.

islands have the best rider ever. for their bowery ballroom show they requested a puppy to play with.

Nice! Isis requested a 6' by 6' by 6' pyramid to be erected in their greenroom.

I was disappointed with Worried Noodles.

David Shrigley is a massive delight, but the translations to music were self-conscious and overly precious, like someone trying to re-tell a joke.

Granted Worried Noodles was a bit inconsistent, but it had quite a few brilliant moments. I mean that Max Tundra track about a game of Twister is totally outrageous. And Simon Bookish could not fail if he tried.
