Aww man what a great story! thanks for sharing.
I concur.
also, let the record show that the world would be a much less interesting place without Rich Jensen.
Oh, you son of a bitch! You got a tour of Glasgow from STEPHEN PASTEL? The ultimate indiepop superstar (rivaled only by Dan Treacy, perhaps)? Not just for the Pastels but for the amazing 53rd & 3rd record label (Shoppies, Beat Happening, BMX Bandits, Talulah Gosh, Vaselines, Boy Hairdressers) Stephen Pastel is IT. I am SO JEALOUS.
I wouldn't throw Aggi from the bridge, though.
I'm going to run right home and get out my Pastels badge and listen to "If I Could Tell You" again.
PS -- they were magnificent at the Crocodile, but I actually enjoyed their little in-store upstairs in the music department of Borders downtown, sitting on the floor. Seen 'em in New York, too, where IMHO they blew away headliners Yo La Tengo.
the fact that bands as diverse as the girl fronted Talulah Gosh, Primal Scream, the Wedding Present and Age Of Chance were all being lumped under the banner of Pastels inspired “indie” thanks to NME and their wave of passion for new DIY groups on the C86 smapler.
Age of Chance were really NOTHING like the Pastels. I've never heard anyone compare them.
then grunge happened. NME moved on, and all those wonderful C86 bands were left in the dust.
Not Primal Scream. Not the Wedding Present. Not the Soup Dragons. Not Mighty Lemon Drops. No matter that some of those bands went on to suck; they did achieve some commercial/critical success.
It's Kevin Shields. Misspelling of guitar gods' names is inexcusable.
There are more errors, but that's enough for now. Tighten it up.
i got laid to Talulah Gosh, which brought me to the Pastels. good story.
oh god, you are so lucky. thanks for the awesome post!
